Former Celtic winger Patrick Roberts looks set for a move back to England, with English League One side Wigan joining the race to sign the 24-year old.

The Manchester City winger is currently on loan in France with Ligue 1 side Troyes, but after making just one appearance on his latest loan spell, edging closer to a return to England, according to the Sunderland Echo.

Since Roberts last spell at Parkhead in 2018, it has been a disappointing few years for the wide player, who showed glimpses of what he was capable of during his time under both Ronny Deila and Brendan Rodgers.

Having spent two and a half years in Glasgow, many fans called for the winger to make another return the following season that he departed. But, as time has gone on, that has become a less exciting proposition after spending time with the likes of Norwich, Middlesbrough and Derby, but failing to make an impact.

Now, a move to either Wigan or Sunderland in English League One looks to be on the cards for the former England youth internationalist.

It is disappointing to see how his career has went since his time in Glasgow, given how talented a player he is. But we hope his next move is the one that gets him back to his best, and at his age, that is entirely possible.
