Former Celtic flop, Eyal Berkovic is on the shortlist for the manager of the men’s Israel National Team.

According to the Daily Record, Berkovic is on a four-man shortlist, which also includes former Chelsea boss Avram Grant, Hapoel Be’er Sheva boss Yossi Aboxis and Hapoel-Tel Aviv manager Nir Klinger

Berkovic joined the club under John Barnes in 1999 for a hefty price of £5.75 million. But his time at the club was cut short after just a year, moving on to English side Manchester City.

The former Israeli international midfielder has some management experience since retiring having a short spell at Hapoel-Tel Aviv in 2014/15.

With Scotland set to face off against Israel, three times in the space of six weeks later in the year, in both their playoff match and the UEFA Nations League matches, Berkovic could become a familiar name to the tartan army, if he does end up getting the job on a full-time basis.

This could be a bit of a chance for the former Celtic player to get his revenge on Scottish Football in a way, by relieving the National Team of their chances to qualify for the Euro 2020 Championships, which were unfortunately delayed until next year due to the Coronavirus pandemic
