VICTOR WANYAMA has announced his retirement from International football at the age of 30 after representing Kenya 64 times.

The former Celtic midfielder was signed from the Belgian side Beerschot A.C. After playing 91 times in green and white, the Kenyan was interested in a new challenge and moved to Southhampton for a fee of £12.5 million.

After a successful spell at the club, he transferred to Spurs and had a great impact in his first season. However, he was hampered by knee injuries and found it tough to nail his place in the starting squad.

Wanyama played in Spurs’ 3-2 win over Ajax in the semi-final of the Champions League although he did not feature in the final.

After rumours emerged of a possible return to Parkhead, MLS club CF Montréal would be his next club.

Victor Wanyama will be remembered for his opening goal at Celtic Park on the 7th November 2012, when the hoops sent a shockwave throughout European football, defeating Barcelona 2-1.

Wanyama had spoken of a possible return to Paradise and admitted he wanted to pull on the green and white hoops before he hung up his boots, but this has not happened as of yet. However, it has to be said, the older he gets the less likely a possible return is.

“But I want to play for Celtic again before I finish. I have unfinished business there. I love that club.”
