We are a few months removed from the departure of Ryan Christie and all parties have done very well moving on.

Celtic have found their rhythm under Ange Postecoglou and new-look side while Ryan has been hitting the heights with Bournemouth and contributing 5 assists last the English side look to return to the top flight.

Ryan’s exit from Celtic felt inevitable for quite some time. The midfielder went from unwanted at Celtic to a pivotal part of the team under Brendan Rodgers then Neil Lennon.

His final season, like many other Hoops players, was a bit of a disaster.

At the start of the season, under Ange Postecoglou, Ryan started very well. However, he wanted a change of scenery and a new challenge. The player has grown up in Scottish football with Inverness Celtic and Aberdeen.

The midfielder wanted to branch out and try something new. It’s no secret he wants to play in the Premier League, viewing Bournemouth as the perfect vehicle to make that dream a reality.

Speaking about the move to Glasgow Times, Ryan confirmed his desire for a fresh challenge was the catalyst for moving away.

“There were multiple reasons why I decided to move on. But the new challenge at different places was definitely one of them. It’s been a bit of a breath of fresh air and I am really relishing the football side of it.

“I try to promote Scottish football as much as I can to all the Bournemouth boys and nobody really knows much. But then I am actually quite surprised at how much I didn’t know about the Championship.

“I knew Stoke City had a big stadium, but then you visit places like Bristol City and it’s a massive ground. It’s been to play at these places as, although Scotland has some great stadiums, after all those years it’s nice to have a change.”

Celtic could have been doing with Ryan sticking around just a little longer. We’re light in the middle of the park and he would have certainly got game time between the summer and the January window.

Given his contract was up at the end of December, the club chose to cash in and get a fee for the player.
