Former Celtic striker Charlie Nicholas has had a go at another former Celt Chris Sutton and declared the pundit is the ‘Donald Trump of punditry’.

The astonishing comparison was made in Charlie’s latest Daily Express column where he claims Michael Beale was right to call out Chris for his comments and should continue to dig him up.

“I have watched with interest the reaction to Michael Beale’s war of words with Chris Sutton,” the pundit wrote in his Scottish Daily Express column.

“I think the Rangers manager has every right to defend himself and have a go back. If he thinks the comments have been negative then he should come out and defend himself.

“I have said before that Sutton is the Donald Trump of punditry. He has nipped away and nipped away at Beale.

“There is no way Sutton would have had a go at Neil Lennon or Martin O’Neill, his two great loves, that way.”

Sutton made a comment about Michael Beale only showing sportsmanship during the game against Partick thistle because it was a lower league club and the stakes weren’t that high. Something echoed by several Ibrox minded pundits. It provoked a crazy reaction from Beale who went after Sutton’s time at Chelsea.

Nicholas coming out in support of Beale is no surprise. Charlie likes to believe he’s above the fray and takes a strange sort of pride in putting down his former club. He thinks it shows impartiality, when in reality, it looks like attention seeking appeasement to his paymasters.

Sutton has called out many people at Celtic since becoming a prominent pundit. He did call for Neil Lennon to leave his post as Celtic boss during the covid season. And why would he have a go at Martin O’Neill who isn’t even managing any club.

Donald Trump is a dangerous liar, comparing Chris Sutton to the former president of the United States of America is beyond the pale from Charlie.

  1. Like Trump eh? Let’s see…

    Outlandish theories about everything
Will say absolutely anything to get attention
Is a sex symbol but only in his own head
Struggles with the basics of the English language

…to me that sounds a lot more like Nicholas than Sutton!
