Supposedly the Hoops have been tracking the Egyptian international for the past two years, with his boss Marcel Koller batting away any interest from what was likely Celtic.

Al Ahly accepted a bid of £300,000 for the 26-year-old midfielder from a Turkish side during the summer, but since then, his value appears to have inflated massively due to his form in the Egyptian Premier League.

Having played alongside Mohamed Salah in the international set-up, he has been tipped to be one of the next biggest Egyptian exports to European football.

Although Koller is desperate to keep hold of one of his star players it has been made clear to him that if the asking price is met – Magdy will be available to leave the club.

Currently, this transfer appears to be unlikely, with a midfielder currently not being a priority position for the Scottish champions.

It has been revealed that the priority for Celtic during this window is a fullback and striker with Alistair Johnston’s arrival now imminent.
