BRENDAN RODGERS took part in an interview with Sky Sports man Jamie Carragher for the Telegraph.

Celtic were but a footnote in the interview when he quickly glossed over his time at the club followed by his hasty exit. What struck me about the interview was how rehearsed his lines about leaving the club were. They were so well rehearsed in-fact I could’ve sworn I already heard it.

Brendan is a man who is great with word and it shouldn’t surprise us when he repeats something almost verbatim when it comes to Celtic. It’s a sensitive issue for many still.

There are supporters who have waved him off and wished him well, others who still can’t forgive and guys like me who acknowledge the phenomenal job he did at the club but not ready to let him off the hook with his exit.

The overriding feeling was if he had stayed for the treble treble he would have been waved off into the sunset.

Speaking to the TelegraphRodgers said:

“I lived my dream managing Celtic, a club I supported. That journey will always be with me. But every manager and players will have goals and objectives they want to achieve in their career.

“Your situation can change very quickly. We won seven trophies on the spin and if I felt I could not take Celtic further it had to be the right club and I thought Leicester was too good an opportunity to turn down. The timing was not ideal but I left the team in a good place.

“I looked at Leicester and felt we could develop a way of working to improve the team. I see players like James Maddison, who is better than I thought when I saw him at Aberdeen and Norwich. He loves the game.”
