Jeremie Frimpong has come from out of nowhere to light up Celtic fans every time a football lands at his feet. With right-backs Moritz Bauer & Hatem Abd Elhamed recruited in the summer, Frimpong looked like a player bought by Celtic for the future.

Now, must Celtic fans are begging for him to be in the starting 11 and with good cause. The youngster is lighting up the right-back spot in the same way you would expect from a more attacking position.

But on Thursday night when the Bhoys play Lazio in Rome, the 18-year old will be watching from his flat in Scotland as he never made the initial European squad. After sitting at Celtic Park on a European night, Jeremie is desperate for his team-mates to get out of the group stages and give him a chance of actually playing at Paradise in that unrivalled atmosphere.

Speaking with the Daily Record Frimpong says he will be one of Celtic’s biggest fans come kick-off.

“I’m desperate for the boys to qualify for the knock out stages so I can experience Celtic Park on a European night as a player. If we keep playing like we have been playing then 100 per cent I’m confident we can get there.”

“It would mean everything to play a European night at Parkhead. Playing in the Europa League was one of my dreams so it would be really good. I used to watch it on television so playing in it would be unreal.”

Celtic Park is famous for the atmosphere on a European night and every footballer would want to play in front of such a crowd and Frimong is no different.

“I had heard all about the atmosphere at Celtic Park and it’s lived up to my expectations. It’s been amazing. When it goes dark and then the lights turn green, I had never seen that before. When I saw it for the first time I was like: ‘oh wow’

“Then when everyone comes out of the huddle everyone is shouting and it’s so noisy. It’s so good.”
