DAVID MARTINDALE has praised Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis after last weekends match.

During the penalty incident, Giakoumakis tried to lead Ayo Obileye away from the situation after he had hit out at Kyogo ultimately resulting in him seeing red.

His actions did not go unnoticed as Livi manager David Martindale was full of praise for Celtic’s striker saying;

“I have to say, I was really happy with Giakoumakis because he tried to take Ayo away from the situation.

“Ayo’s been pushed by Kyogo before it but there’s nothing in that – it was just sportsmanship – and Ayo’s reacted.

“Giakoumakis tried to pull him back when it would have been much easier for him to highlight it to the officials but he did the opposite.

“You have to say fair play to him for that and it was good to see. He deserves credit for that.” [Daily Record]

Giorgos Giakoumakis was the designated penalty taker on the pitch at the time, despite Juranovic also being on the field. The penalty was missed meaning Celtic couldn’t capitalise on the chance to go to the summit f the table.

The Greek striker is no stranger to penalties with a handful of his goals in the Eredivisie last season coming from 12 yards out.

It will be interesting to see who steps up to the spot from now on.
