GIORGOS GIAKOUMAKIS was announced as a Celtic player on August the 31st – deadline day – but has only played ten minutes for the hoops as of yet. The greek striker featured from the bench in last Thursday’s Europa League fixture against Bayer Leverkusen.

Last season Giakoumakis was playing in the Eredivisie and was the top scorer, netting the ball twenty-six times, his form wasn’t good enough to keep his team in the top flight as VVV-Venlo were relegated.

The striker flew to Scotland to complete a move to the Bhoys which would see him feature in European competitions, but things haven’t gone the way he would have hoped, yet.

After a long-awaited debut, fans were expecting to see more of the Greek forward during last Sunday’s match against Aberdeen, but to our frustrations, Albian Ajeti was brought onto the pitch and Giorgos Giakoumakis was not.

After the match, Ange Postecoglou talked to Sun Sport about Giakoumakis and his start to Celtic life.

“Giorgos Giakoumakis needs a bit of work, he hasn’t really had a pre-season. So we have got some players we can get something out of when we come back from the break.

“It has been awfully difficult for the players because we have just been really thin.

“Just to get 10 days into Giokoumakis as well will be priceless. Hopefully we can get some work into the ones here and with a bit of luck we can get some back and it will just give us a much stronger base.”

Hopefully, Giorgos can get some quality training over the international break to become a suitable option for Postecoglou when Celtic face Motherwell after the international break.
