There has been ongoing speculation about Celtic’s plans to upgrade their Barrowfield facility. Currently, the site serves as the training ground for the Women’s team, but it appears that significant development is on the horizon.

Barrowfield Indoors

Glasgow-based architectural firm Holmes Miller has unveiled on their website that the Scottish champions are poised to revamp Barrowfield. While the timeline and budget for the project remain undisclosed, the firm has shared images of the proposed site – and it’s quite impressive.

At present, Barrowfield consists of only one or two pitches. However, the newly released images reveal that Celtic intends to add several new pitches to the facility, as well as an indoor complex featuring a full-sized football field.

This indoor park, detailed further on the Holmes Miller website, will prove invaluable during the winter months when outdoor conditions become challenging.

The upgraded facility will also include a state-of-the-art gym and changing rooms, providing a modern and well-equipped training environment for the Women’s team that currently uses the site.

This is thought to be to facilitate the Youth academy as well as the Women’s team.

The redevelopment timeline of Barrowfield’s redevelopment is still uncertain, but there is no doubt that the upgrade is long overdue. It is heartening to see the club investing in the facility, which has been neglected recently.

  1. Considering we’ve had Barrowfield since time immemorial it’s long overdue this redevelopment, it makes sense to do this work as playing at Airdrie and paying them for the privilege has bever made sense to me. My only question now is does it make financial sense having two training facilities, I know Lennoxtown is an awesome site but in my opinion it’s failed in it’s purpose as it was supposed to bring through the next generation of talent and it clearly hasn’t achieved that. I can count on one hand the success stories CalMac Jamesy, KT, if you’re being kind Welsh and Ralston have “made it” to first team level, that’s it; for the money the facility cost and the further investment since, that’s simply not good enough!

  2. How about they spend some serious millions on a couple of quality player additions to the first team before planning a new Barrowfield? Every day I ckeck to see if the desired additions are happening and every day it’s the same old fake news while the countdown to window closure nears. Ange had all his players well bought and settled by now, so it looks like we’re being had and the recruitment this year will consist of several young projects and little else. Whatever happened to that great transfer kitty we were told Rodgers had at his disposal? He’s already backtracked on that by saying that there will be no 10 – 15 million purchases and he’ll be working within “the Celtic model”, which, of course, means Peter Lawwell’s biscuit tin model!

  3. All the Ange signings being early is a myth.

Ange got Jota, CCV and Giakoumakkis in on the last day of the summer transfer window. Only the Far East signings came early because Ange had the inside track.

The guys we are after have options and other suitors. They are of a calibre where Celtic is not necessarily the best club chasing them.

  4. Sadly, unless Celtic are prepared to match what other clubs in England and Europe can offer to quality players of interest, then they should stick to the Far East and other untapped markets where they can hope to uncover a few more gems. Every time I see Celtic’s name linked with a player who is also being scouted by the big clubs in England, Germany, Spain, etc., I know immeditely that it’s a red herring story and that Celtic will never land the player. It’s a good distraction for the fans and it gives the impression that Celtic are serious about European advancement, but nothing ever materialises. I hope I’m wrong, but I have a feeling that the transfer window will close without any player of real known quality being signed. I truly don’t think it is on the cards – it’s all about perception, not investment.

  5. As I said- CCV and Jota arrived on the final day. Other clubs were interested in them but we got them, thankfully. There are many where we cannot persuade them to come or to stay. Riley McGree went to Boro when we wanted him and Ajer went to Brentford when we’d prefer to keep him.

We cannot keep tapping just the Far East. EPL, German and Spanish clubs have a good crew of Japanese and S. Korean signings too. Ange made that market hot even though it is not risk free (Ideguchi and Kobayashi were not successes). We have had value in raiding the over-stocked larder of EPL clubs and PSG that keep promising young players on a constant stream of loans because they cannot break into first team squads. We got Frimpong, Denayer, Weah, Edouard, Boyata, and Armani from there. We even got Dembele from Fulham and Bosun Lawal from Watford.

We need to be smart but I am sure there are signings to come.

There is no amount of investment available to a Scottish club that will transform our position in the food chain by a lot. We can improve by being smart operators- not pretend big-bucks operators. That is just a fur coat- nae knickers policy.

  6. Why are Celtic considering spending money on a facility that is mainly for women’s football. Celtic are not a billionaire-owned club like Manchester City, etc. Celtic should be concentrating on male football facilities. Women’s football is a drain on the club’s finances, and they’d be better off, if they did not have a women’s team, which is a distraction from improving the men’s teams. Every single penny spent on the women’s team, is money that cannot be spent on the men’s teams.

  7. The big named players linked to Celtic by the Scottish Media sites are a red herring and click bait. it is to make gullible Celtic fans moan and groan about possible signings not arriving that were impossible for a club with Celtics financial restrictions.
We’ve signed six players so far and got Kyogo and Maeda on extended contracts. hopefully maybe one or two more but I won’t panic if they don’t arrive. The League, a run in Europe until after Christmas[the Europa League after Christmas will be acceptable]. The two cups would be icing on the cake, but aren’t all that important
Already 3pts ahead of the Ibrox mob after two games and some Celtic fans are in a panic, What about?
Roll on the 1st Sept, we’ll know the squad available and the manager can get on with his job. Keep the Faith.

  8. We are in a constant state of worry and negativity because that’s what’s drummed into you by the Scottish sports media. Their writings are always loaded with positive connotations for rangers and negative connotations for Celtic, it sells their garbage. Can you imagine what it would be like should they have won the last 22 trophies or so? They’ve won 2 trophies in 12 years and we’re the ones supposed to be worried?
If that mob can make a Europa final then so can we, just need a facade of confidence like that mob had, not a crippling worry and groan any time there’s a stray pass.

  9. I’m not in a panic but I have noticed a very definite decline in the team over the last two games. Some of that will be due to settling in after the break, but there’s no way this present Celtic side is going to make inraods in European competition. The back line, including Joe Hart, is like a Swiss cheese right now, full of holes.

No, two quality players have left in Mooy and Jota and they haven’t been replaced with like quality, and that’s on top of the fact that the team needed strengthening before they left. You projects at biscuite tin money, regardless of how many are brought in and how good they may turn out to be 5 years from now, is not what I call stepping up to a higher level. It’s great news if you’re a shareholder looking to develop and sell on for profit, but it’s backwards for the team performances on the park. I still hope Rodgers has the sense to make a couple of seriously good additions before the wondow closes or it’s going to be a very long and arduous season!
