Earlier in the week, the UK Government put forward proposals that would attack football fans across the country. The draconian measures looked to demonise the heart and soul of the game – the supporters.

Thankfully, though, they look to have been scrapped, and rightfully so. In a consultation document that was published by the UK Government, there were countless proposals that criminalised football fans and all-out attacked the game’s lifeblood.

Supporters’ buses were the prime target of the proposed measures. It was said they could not ‘stop at a pub for the purposes of fans getting an alcoholic drink unless it’s sold alongside “a substantial meal”’, ‘arrive at venues more than two hours before a game, and not less than an hour before kick-off’ or ‘leave a venue within 30 minutes of “the event” finishing’, among several others.

Clearly, these measures are drastically unnecessary, and according to Michael Blackley, the political editor for the Scottish Daily Mail, on Twitter, they are set to be scrapped. This news comes as a colossal victory for football fans.

The proposals being put forward were nothing short of alarming. Thankfully and rightfully, they will not be put into place, and supporters can enjoy going to matches on buses without being criminalised.
