The big news today with the team was that Giakoumakis was nowhere to be found in the matchday squad and Celtic fans have been holding their breath waiting for confirmation why.

Big GG hit a match-winning hattrick last weekend against Dundee that should have catapulted him into some form and allowed him to live up to the expectation he arrived to Glasgow with as the Eredivisie top scorer last season.

You could see his match-winning performance last week was just waiting to happen with some of his prior performances containing everything except the goals. Most Celtic fans felt it was only a matter of time and they were right.

Ange Postecoglou has just confirmed in his live pre-match interview with Sky Sports that Giakoumakis just has an illness and will be back for Wednesday.

This is a relief with Kyogo out for another few weeks at least it is good to know the Greek’s striker absence will be short term. Hopefully, there are no fresh injuries after today.

Celtic have beaten Hibs in each of their three meetings so far this season, home and away in the SPFL, and at Hampden in the League Cup final.

A resounding first-half performance the last time out at Easter Road in October delivered a 3-1 win. That, though, was Celtic’s first league win there since January 2014.
