Celtic centre-back Gustaf Lagerbielke is very much on the fringes of the first-team squad. Despite an injury crisis at the heart of the defence earlier in the season, the Swedish internationalist didn’t seem to get a look in.

Besides his last-minute winner against Feyenoord in the Champions League, Lagerbielke hasn’t done much in a green and white jersey. In fairness, though, he hasn’t had many opportunities to impress.

In five months at the club, he has conjured just nine appearances, with a January exit looking likely.

As we approach the final days of the window, clubs are eager to get business done as activity ramps up. And per Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph, Lecce still wants to sign Lagerbielke on loan before the end of the month.

They’re working on a deal to sign the 23-year-old but for it to happen, the Serie A outfit would require Celtic to pay a large proportion of his wages.

Whether this is a sticking point for the Scottish champions remains to be seen, but it is certain that if Lagerbielke stays in Glasgow beyond January, he won’t get many minutes. He will want to get regular game time as soon as possible, and a move to Lecce could provide him with that.
