If you know your way around Scottish football social media, you will know there’s a lad called Chris Jack who could be described as an Ibrox cheerleader more than a serious journo with some of the things he writes (our opinion, of course). Some of the lad’s tweets are comedy gold from over the years and well he and the ET were caught out yesterday when they published a piece of absolute fiction.

Jack had done the write up about RANGERS potential next Euro opponents Shkendija. The article touches on how Shkendija boss Qatip Osmani would love to meet RANGERS and the wonderful Steven Gerrard in the next round of the competition.

There are two things wrong with this: Shkendija are playing in an entirely different competition and are CELTIC’S next opponents. Go figure.

This was printed in the paper, for anyone to read and if you’re not on social media you might very well think Shkendija are Ibrox bound in two weeks.

So the article was 100% bogus. Instead of throwing his hands up and admitting he had done something rather foolish. Today, Jack has opted to blame a freelancer and he didn’t file the quotes. How about fact checking?

“These quotes/pars had nothing to do with me and were not my error. It was filed by a freelance and wrongly picked up by the desk. It shouldn’t have been used but I didn’t file it. Thanks to those that piled in with abuse, questioned my professionalism and want me sacked though.” The reporter wrote on Twitter.

Talk about self-preservation, who would write the PR for the Ibrox club if he were to leave his post? Not worth thinking about.
