NEIL LENNON remains calm about his transfer plans and point blank refused to be drawn into speculation as to what anyone else in the league is doing on the transfer front.

The Celtic manager has already brought three players into the club and would like three or four more to cover vital positions in the side.

The notion Celtic need to do anything to react to what’s going on at Ibrox is laughable. Celtic are in a strong position, they need to make sure they make the right call when it comes to bringing in the quality they need to kick on next season – it’s as simple as that.

Neil is very aware the media constantly try and put the two clubs up against one another but the Celtic manager wants to rise above it and doesn’t want to get involved in anything that’s tit for tat.

The Celtic gaffer did mention there’s another big deadline looming for the club in their search for new players, specifically a right back. The club have to register players by Thursday’s deadline and after that, they would only be allowed to register one wild card up to 24 hours before it if they have space in their squad.

Speaking about the current transfer scene and fielding questions on his Glasgow rivals, Neil Lennon would not be drawn.

“I can’t affect what Rangers do. It’s not one of those situations where if they spend £4m, then we want to spend £8m. It’s not like that. We just want to get the right players in if the price is good and we think there’s quality and re-sellable value in them as well.” Lennon told the Scotsman.

“We have to focus on ourselves. You can’t affect what’s going on elsewhere. You can’t – and we won’t. We might be [going for the same players] but that creates its own issues. Sometimes agents play one against another and I don’t want to get involved in any of that nonsense either.

“We’ve got four or five days [until the next Uefa deadline] and you can do a deal in three or four hours. It’s a question of whittling it down: is this the right price, the right age and the right wage?

“We have to filter that all down and have been agonising over a lot of players over the last two or three weeks. We want to get it right. Not just for the sake of short-term. There’s a lot of work being done in the background. We had a four-hour recruitment meeting on Wednesday on two positions. It’s quite energy-sapping sometimes.”
