Since heading South to Liverpool, 17-year-old sensation Ben Doak has been the centre of attention. The winger looks like he could be the best footballer to come out of Scotland in a while.
Already gaining notable minutes for the Reds’ first team, Doak moved to Merseyside, leaving behind Celtic in the process. It was a decision the player himself made, but it is one that former Celt and pundit Andy Waker can comprehend.
Walker said on Go Radio’s Football Show: “He has gone to a bigger and richer league. A better quality of player. He is playing under an elite manager, who does seem to believe in him. I understand the attraction of going to England for the level of competition, never mind the money, but that platform, it’s special.”
Doak has recently been playing for Scotland’s under-21s, even scoring against Hungary in a 3-1 victory. Many are calling for him to be on the plane to Germany next summer.
It wouldn’t be surprising if he was, and every time his name is mentioned in a positive manner, Celtic fans will taste a slight hinge of disappointment that he is no longer a bhoy.
