Celtic squad player Mikey Johnston has found the net for Ireland against Gibraltar on Monday evening to make it 2-0.

The 28th minute witnessed a poetic blend of skill and opportunity. As the play unfurled on the right, Ogbene seamlessly found Doherty, who without missing a beat, sent a low cross spiralling through the defence. Amidst the swarm of defenders, it was Johnston who made a darting run across his marker at the front post.

His initial strike ricocheted off the post, but he made no mistake with the rebound.

Mikey is on the outside looking in at Celtic, another injury at the beginning of this season meant he was facing another uphill battle to show his worth. While Brendan Rodgers understands the player is gifted, he’s never been able to stay fit enough to make his mark.

Can his exploits for Ireland change his fortunes for Celtic? Or is it a case of too little, too late?
