CELTIC STAR Alistair Johnston has made it no secret that former Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama played a pivotal role in the full-backs’ transfer across the Atlantic.

AJ has been superb since joining Celtic, making quite the debut at Ibrox for the New Year fixture. Replacing Juranovic was never going to be easy, but the Canadian has done a decent job so far.

Speaking to the Celtic View podcast, Victor Wanyama gave some insight to the conversations, revealing he couldn’t stop pushing Johnston towards the move. He said:

“Alistair, what a player first of all, and what a man. Besides football, he’s a very good human being.

“He asked me about Celtic and I told him everything. [I told him] that’s the place to be. Since then I couldn’t stop telling him about Celtic.

“I pushed him there and I was happy that he made that move. I’m also happy seeing him perform well every weekend.”

Having already picked up his first trophy in Glasgow, Johnston has taken Wanyama’s advice on board, with the Kenyan telling him to hit the gym for one very specific reason.

The Bhoys are doing well so I told Alistair that he had to go to the gym so that he can be ready to lift a lot of trophies.

“He was not used to that. Now he has to get used to it, so he needs more gym so he is able to lift the trophies.”

Johnston has already promised supporters that more silverware will head back to Parkhead this season, and it’s now up to him and his fellow teammates to deliver on that.

The league looks like it’ll be staying put in Paradise, with the bhoys pushing for the first treble of the Ange Postecoglou era.
