CHARLIE NICHOLAS has gone full Charlie Nicholas this morning in his Daily Express column.

The former Celtic and Arsenal star has had a go at the club for reportedly chasing Aaron Hickey’s signature this summer, before revealing he has no idea how the player has got on in Serie A.

Nicholas questioned the wisdom of Celtic chasing Hickey and even claimed the club didn’t sign the left back last season because he is defensively weak.

The former Soccer Saturday pundit then revealed he believes Celtic should make a move for Josh Doig – for no other reason than Charlie has seen him play last season.

“It looks as if the Hoops have identified the Bologna full-back. It poses the question: why didn’t they buy him last summer when Hearts were selling him?” Nicholas wrote, as quoted by SunSport.

“Celtic didn’t buy him for £1million because he was defensively weak and they were right. Hickey’s strengths are going forward.

“Now all of a sudden, they look ready to pay in excess of £3million for the same player just 12 months later.

“He has been in Italy for a season. Has his defensive game improved?

“I don’t really know because I have not really seen that much of him.

“That is why I would rather go for young Doig from Hibs.

“You can see what he has got and you can work on his defending.

“Maybe he has come on a lot in Italy, only time will tell if Celtic get their man.”

So, Celtic shouldn’t sign Aaron because Charlie is not sure how he’s done in Serie A.

Celtic have been following the player’s progress and would be in the best position to know how Hickey has done in Italy.

Doig does have a great upside too but the parameters Nicholas sets for his decision are bogus.
