SCOTT BAIN has become Celtic and Scotland’s number one in the last six months. The goalkeeper has come out of the shadow of Craig Gordon and has not disappointed.

Brendan Rodgers put his faith in the goalkeeper after coming in as an emergency loan due to an injury to Craig Gordon. Only brought in as a backup for the invincible goalkeeper you would have forgiven many Celtic fans for not paying attention when he came in the door at Celtic Park.

The goalkeeper was already on loan at Hibernian when he got the call. His time at Dundee was over even though he still had a contract for another six months. The goalkeeper had a changing room bust up with then Dundee boss, Neil McCann and when he was fined in the following days he refused to accept the punishment. McCann would then cut his own nose off to spite his face by demoting Bain to the reserves, never to be seen again in a Dundee jersey.

After being signed by Neil Lennon at Hibs on-loan for the rest of the season it would be a transfer triangle that would see Dundee player Scott Bain turn up to Celtic Park to sign a Celtic contract in a Hibs tracksuit.

Looking back at that time in his life now and the bust-up with McCann the goalkeeper says he can laugh about it but nothing has changed his mind over the incident in question.

“I wouldn’t change anything that happened at Dundee,” Bain told the BBC. “I don’t regret a thing. I stood up for what was right and it can be difficult for players to do that. You can be forgotten about real quick in football. I felt it was right to stand up and say I wasn’t accepting it [the punishment] and whatever comes with that, you have to take it. I was happy to take the consequences.”

McCann was sacked by Dundee eventually and the club relegated. Bain has just won a treble with Celtic, something he played a big hand in this term. Funny how things work out.

  1. I said within a couple of weeks of his arrival that Scott should be our number 1.
It was obvious he was a quality goalkeepers. McCann has been shown up for extremely childlike behaviour which has backfired on him. McCann is really unemployable and only idiots would employ him in any kind of important position.
