It was bad news for Celtic defender Andrew Gutman on Thursday afternoon when he was told he hadn’t made the USA squad for the Gold Cup.

The left back who is currently on loan at Charlotte Independence was invited to the USA training camp last week so coaches could run the rule over him before naming their final squad.

After much deliberation, Gutman was cut from the USA International side and will play no part in the competition as announced by Sports Illustrated. The defender was eyeing more progress 6 months after signing for Celtic and being loaned straight out.

Gutman, 22, only turned pro this year after playing football at collegiate level where he won player of the year last season.

The American is striving for progress in order to be ready for when Celtic give him the call to return. Both he and Manny Perez were signed by Celtic and loaned straight back out but the length of their stays were not confirmed.
