It has been a rumour that’s been doing the rounds since last year when Brendan Rodgers was in charge but TEAMTALK seem to confirm Celtic have made some sort of play for Wigan midfielder Nick Powell in the recent past.

The report didn’t get into specifics about any talks but said: “We can reveal that Brighton, Burnley, Newcastle, Sheffield Wednesday, Derby, Blackburn, Middlesbrough and Scottish champions Celtic have all spoken to Powell, but it seems Stoke are in pole position.”

Powell had been running down the last year of his Wigan contract with clearly no intention of signing a new deal with the club. The interest from Celtic was all speculation but this report does go one further and suggests talks.

Whether they did or didn’t happen it looks like Stoke City will get Nick on a Free Transfer.

Nick, 25, was once signed by Manchester Utd back in 2012 for a whopping £6.75m from Crewe. He only made 9 appearances for the first team squad during his time at Old Trafford.

While the player has his positives, he’s hardly what Celtic need at this moment in time. The bhoys have plenty of attacking players. We need a solid base and a lot of repair to the defence before looking at anything else.

Maryan Shved, Daniel Arzani and Lewis Morgan coming in as well as Ryan Christie coming back into the fold after a horror injury will see the bhoys ok in the attacking positions.
