With Carl Starfelt back training with the Celtic first team, it begs the question as to who will partner Cameron Carter-Vickers upon his return from injury.

There has been a number of alterations made at the back for Ange Postecoglou’s side so far this season with all four potential options being given game time.

Cameron Carter-Vickers was handed the armband after Callum McGregor picked up a knee injury in Leipzig and has proved himself to be one of the first names on the team sheet.

The former Spurs man was out of action for a few weeks and his presence in defence was missed. Ever since he returned to action against St Johnstone almost three weeks ago, he has formed a fairly solid partnership with Moritz Jenz.

The German defender is on loan at Celtic from FC Lorient with an option to buy included in the deal for the 23-year old believed to be £3 million.

It is likely that the Hoops will trigger this option to bring Jenz to the club with Stephen Welsh looking to be a reliable squad player.

Starfelt and Carter-Vickers blended together to form a strong partnership last season and were imperative to Celtic’s success.

The Swede won’t just walk back into the team, but Postecoglou may be tempted to bring him back into the side after the World Cup.

He will benefit greatly from the warm weather training camp in Portugal and is expected to also head out to Sydney with the team. Due to an injury picked up on international duty in June, Starfelt missed out on pre-season meaning that this will be an opportunity for him to get back to the level he wants to be at.
