The KANO Foundation are a fantastic organisation who through volunteers try and keep football free for kids.
Their mission is to give kids, regardless of background and circumstance, a day out at Celtic Park. You may have seen them over the years, the kids are all wearing KANO bibs and are in a group with the volunteers.
They are completely self-funded and rely on the generosity of Celtic fans through fundraising and donations.
However, during this time it’s become impossible to fundraise through more traditional methods. What’s more, the club has done nothing to help the foundation out during these hard times.
KANO has 186 season books to pay for in order to get as many kids through the turnstiles as possible. Given the circumstances of this season, we thought the club would maybe give this group some sort of break or refund because they have effectively bought 186 TV subscriptions at full price.
Speaking to the foundation, we learned the club told them to pay for all the season tickets under their umbrella or lose them. It’s a very disappointing and short-sighted way to do business. The KANO Foundation are bringing through a new wave of Celtic fans who may not have even stepped foot in Celtic park if it wasn’t for their hard work.
This is where the Celtic fans come in.
At Celtic’s very core, it’s all about the support. Custodians come and go but we are Celtic and we, as a community to continue to help one another.
KANO put out the word at the weekend that they would need £20k in fundraising efforts to keep things going beyond this season. The supporters have already come out in their droves to help them; from raffles to 5K run initiatives and beyond.
Eddie Toner gave a massive and heartening update of how things are going and the foundation are well on their way to getting the funds they need in place.
Kano appeal. An update: Delighted to report that, so far, just over £10k has been received in donations by @KanoFoundation . They are awaiting further pledges of around £4K to be paid. So we are well on target. Can we get this over the line by the weekend? https://t.co/8YqtN8PhOW
