CELTIC are wrapping their young star in cotton wool after a scan revealed a slight problem with Mikey Johnston.

The attacking midfielder has been getting some more game time this season and Celtic manager does not want to jeopardise his long-term fitness, which is why Mikey sat out Scotland U21s defeat on Friday.

The player has been on inspired form for his country in recent times – being named third best player at the Toulon cup and getting on the scoresheet against the auld enemy with a cracking solo effort.

Speaking about the injury to his player, U21 boss Scott Gemmi confirmed the situation.

“Mikey’s got a slight problem with his hamstring, and Celtic had him scanned last weekend.”

With so many more opportunities for Mikey this season to make the breakthrough at Celtic, it’s pivotal he is fit and ready to go when Brendan Rodgers calls on him.

The wee man has looked lively in his performances so far and will be hoping to kick on once he shakes off the hamstring problem.
