For the longest time now we’ve known Dedryck Boyata was on his way out of the club. The bust-up between himself, his agent and Brendan Rodgers at the start of last season made his move away inevitable in many respects.

After that incident, the Belgian did come back into the fold and played a prominent part in Celtic’s treble treble season.

The defender knew he was leaving but gave the team his 100% commitment with his final game for Celtic being the 2-1 victory over The Rangers at Celtic Park. That day, the defender went off early with an injury and that would be his last involvement in the season.

The player’s Celtic career looked over shortly after the Ronny Deila era had finished but it would be six months into Brendan Rodgers’ reign when the player would earn a reprieve and he didn’t look back.

He signed a lucrative deal with German side Hertha Berlin in May and will be playing in the Bundesliga next season. As he leaves Celtic Park, his final message to the Celtic support was printed in this weeks Celtic View.

“It has been an honour to wear the jersey and help the club win titles”

All the best Dedryck!
