Emilio Izaguirre featured for Honduras today, who suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to the hands of the French. Their cause was not helped by Wilson Palacios seeing red in the first half after giving away a penalty for a push minutes before the break. Karim Benzema scored twice and Noel Valladares scored an own goal, thanks to the help of goal-line technology.

Emilio played his part in a hard, aggressive performance from the Hondurans and seemed frustrated at times culminating in him stupidly kicking an opponent which was left unpunished. His cross-field balls however were something to enjoy, almost always being executed to perfection. He enjoyed few opportunities to go forward and share in the attack, crossing the ball in the box when allowed to do so with few, if any, targets in the box. Defensively, it was a difficult day for our bhoy, as he had to face Griezmann and Debuchy, who constantly overlapped, dominating the wing. Emilio wasn’t out of his depth though, and was one of the noticeably talented Hondurans on the pitch, and we will be allowed to see more of him against Ecuador on Friday, and Switzerland the following Wednesday.

It was always going to be a difficult start for Emilio and Honduras and it proved that way, but we should look forward to our man showing his quality in the rest of their campaign.

Hail Hail
