Jeremie Frimpong made a sharp exit out of Celtic Park this week with the club raking in a healthy transfer fee for the players services.

It was on Tuesday Neil Lennon told the media Jeremie was all but gone. The Dutch under 21 told the club he wanted to leave and when Leverkusen came in for him, he was always going to go.

The right back came Celtic less than two years ago with little reputation and bust onto the scene very quickly. He came in on the same day as Lee O’Connor and while Lee has been sent out on loan twice, Jeremie ended up in the first team shortly after his arrival.

He had a good debut season, but this term, like many of the players at the club, has looked off. Maybe because he wanted away, or perhaps he wasn’t satisfied with his development or where it was going.

Speaking to the Leverkusen website, he stressed the importance of European football and playing at a high level in the Bundesliga.

“I’m totally looking forward to the Bundesliga and, of course, this club in particular.

“Bayer 04 Leverkusen have regularly been in the Champions League and the Europa League.

“They demonstrated their ambition on the European stage last year in the two games against Glasgow Rangers.

“I really like the offensive, fast and technical style of play at Bayer 04 and I hope I can soon help the team.”

We wish him well in his future career.
