Celtic were looking far and wide during the January transfer window to beef up their options in several positions.

Even after Patryk Klimala was signed by the club to add another striker to the ranks there were still rumours of maybe another frontman coming in on a six-month loan deal with Neil Lennon keen one two strikers up top.

Nothing came of it during the window and Celtic only added Ismaila Soro and Patryk Klimala to the squad.

It now transpires Celtic had a deal lined up to sign Scotland forward Jordan Rhodes on loan late in the window but according to HITC the club pulled out of the deal when it became clear how much it would cost to bring him in as a squad player.

The website claims Sheffield Wednesday wanted a £1m loan fee and for the 30-year-olds wages to be covered in full.

This was before Leigh Griffiths got back in properly and among the goals. It looks like Celtic made the correct decision.
