FELIP JOTA spoke to the media and Celtic fan media on Tuesday ahead as he settles in as a Celtic player for the season.

The Lisbon born player joined the Hoops on deadline day and has been training at Lennoxtown during the international break.

Speaking to Celtic TV Jota was asked if he was keen to make the loan deal permanent in the summer.

The winger was clear, it’s all about this season and those conversations will be saved until the end of the campaign – hopefully when he has a couple of medals.

“Moving to Celtic is a big responsibility because of the size of the club.

“I want to be at the level they ask of me. It’s great to be here, there are plenty of good players and good coaches with refreshing ideas. Now I want to be on the pitch with the lads and do my thing.

“I’m here to help the team and the main achievement would be the title – I’m here to win that.

“Any coach or player at Celtic must be ready to win every game. They must be ready to win the title.

“Right now I think the most important thing is to play and to keep on learning and adapting to the Scottish game.

“I know the terms of my loan but I don’t want to think about that. I have to focus on my football, adapt to the game here and learn.

“Everything at the right time. First win games, title and then we speak about other things.

“Anything else will be discussed at the end of the season.”

There’s always the temptation to look to the end of the season with a loan player. Celtic fans will know by now, calling for loan deals to be made permanent before we have a full picture of the player and how they’ve settled in is never wise.

There was once calls for Oli Burke to be signed on a permanent deal after playing five or six games for the club. By the end of the season there weren’t many supporters clamouring to keep the Scottish international.

Even last season with Laxalt’s start with the club to where he ended up meant a permanent deal was never going to be on the cards.

Let’s hope we have a young hungry player in Jota who can help contribute to a successful season and as the player said, have that conversation at the end of the campaign.

  1. I believe Jota will be a real succes. If he starts well and gets his confidence up he’ll be a real good entertaining footballer. Angeball will suit him very well and he will get plenty of chances to show what he can do with players like kyogo & Co around him. Our all out attack way of playing would be a wingers dream so I would imagine he will enjoy his time at celtic and results in a permanent deal. HH

  2. I hope Jota has a great season and becomes a permanent player for Celtic.
The player fits the bill for the club as a good character and decent human being. Obviously his excellent football skills are paramount to the club, but other characteristics, such as good social interaction, determination, good work ethic and empathy for others in the team are important to the club as well.

Celtic look for well balanced and well brought up players, with principles.
Young Jota fits the bill and I hope he has every success. I am very impressed with how he, Kyogo and Juranovic and our other recent signings come across in their interviews.

Let’s enjoy our team and get right behind them and Ange. The manager himself is a man of principle, showing all of the above characteristics as well. We should be very proud of them all and of those who have remained at the club, such as Tony Ralston, Calum etc. The improvement in Tony Ralston, for example, is a testament to both him and the manager.

I believe we will now have a situation where youngsters have a genuine route to the first team as Ange will give them their chance as their development merits.

Having gone to see our B team, I am confident that this will be the case.
One young man that I would dearly like to see progress to the first team is Luca Connell. I have rarely been so excited and confident of our future.

Vous ne marcherez plus jamais tout seul!
