Celtic were on a hiding to nothing in Rome tonight having to play well past his peak James Forrest in a do or die game in Rome.

The bhoys had a game plan not to go full throttle and manage the game until they could go attempt to win it. As soon as they tried to go for it, they were punished by super-sub Ciro Immobile. Celtic are out of Europe until next season and we have nobody to blame but ourselves.

Away from the pitch though, Lazio fans held up a banner before the game telling Celtic fans to go home because the famine was over. This is a reference to the Irish potato famine and telling Celtic, a largely catholic fan base to go home to Ireland.

Given UEFA hand out fines for just about anything, we have to believe they’re about to bring down the hammer on Lazio for the inflammatory banner.

UEFA is an organisation that once fined Celtic for waving Palestine flags, so when it comes to blatant anti-Irish racism, surely they will take severe action against the Italian side.

Celtic fans were also treated terribly getting into the stadium on the evening with checks and unhelpful police and stewards delaying the process of getting into the game. We’ll have more on that later.
