Neil Lennon was answering questions yesterday with Celtic TV about the current shape of his Celtic squad. As players returned to Lennoxtown on Monday after a very short break the manager has had a chance to assess where his players are at.

Celtic fans were delighted to see pictures and videos of Leigh Griffiths looking sharp and focused in training. The Celtic manager was able to validate those images by declaring he has no problems in “putting him in”.

The Celtic manager declared that it is “payback time” ahead of some crunch European qualifiers for the Bhoys next month.

“He’s doing very, very well. We’re really pleased with him,” Lennon said.

“He’s done a really good week, double sessions, he’s been training constantly for the last two or three months on his conditioning, so I’d have no problem putting him in.

“He’s in a good place at the minute. It’s a credit to him he’s knuckled down away from the limelight.” “It’s great,” he added. “We have a proven goalscorer at club and international level who we’ve missed for a significant period of time.

“It’s payback time for him as the club’s been very good to him. He knows that and he knows what he’s got with me.”

The striker spent the best part of last season away from Celtic after he had to publically announce he had personal problems that he had to deal with. Celtic fans will be delighted to see their man pulling on the Hoops again and firing in the goals.

With so many players exiting Celtic Park this summer a fully fit Leigh Griffiths will feel like a new signing for the forthcoming season.
