Former Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths is poised for a new chapter in his football career – this time, off the field.

After a spell with Mandurah City in Australia, where he netted 11 goals in just ten matches, Griffiths is reportedly in line for a player-coach position. Despite his significant contributions, the Western Australian club narrowly missed out on promotion.

Griffiths’ journey to Mandurah City began a little over a year ago, courtesy of the club’s head coach, John Baird, who managed to persuade the one-time Scotland international to sign an initial short-term contract.

Now, Baird has plans not just for Griffiths but also aims to rope in more talent from Scotland. The club already saw the addition of former Forfar and Brechin player, Murray Macintosh, last season.

In a conversation with the Scottish Sun, Baird expressed,”Leigh scored 11 in ten games. He’s staying to play again next season and he could join the staff as a player-coach.

“He has two of his kids over here now, too, and that’s been huge for him. He’s made a real impact.”

Griffiths has had quite the few months off the field, but he’s been given a fresh start in Australia, and he seems to be taking it.

  1. Give us football news please, Griffiths does not fall into that category, he did ok as a player but his private lifestyle got in the way of his performance on the pitch.
I welcome current player news and exceptional past player news.
    Mediocre is below celtics standard.
