Leigh Griffiths could be set for a surprise appearance in front of the Celtic faithful on Sunday afternoon after rejoining training this week with his teammates.

RecordSport is reporting the striker got some face to face time with the squad on Thursday and Friday and could lead a second string of Celtic players on Sunday afternoon.

The two back to back friendlies on Sunday and Monday will serve a lot of purposes.

The fitness and sharpness of the players will obviously be key but also getting them used to an empty Celtic Park; the sound of the crowd replaced by echoes from the coaches and players themselves.

Importantly, it will also serve to test the new virtual season ticket system which has to be working by next Sunday.

Leigh was binned by Neil Lennon for the pre-season games in France but if he’s shown enough in the past three weeks, a goal against County could be the start of his comeback.
