Celtic manager Neil Lennon has expressed his frustration at midfielder Ryan Christie’s involvement with the Scotland National Team, starting all three games.

As reported by the Daily Record, Lennon was quick to praise the National side for their incredible achievement but also admits that he was too impressed with Steve Clarke starting the 26-year old in every game.

He said: “Well he (Steve Clarke) didn’t rest Ryan – that didn’t please me.

“It was three 90 minutes in six days which is a big ask for any individual

“So I think Steve tried to balance his squad as best he could but it looked like he didn’t want to play without Ryan in the games.

“I can’t be over critical of it but we would have liked him to have missed some of the games anyway but he’s played in all three!”

Christie was certainly a standout for Scotland over the break, scoring a crucial goal to give Scotland the lead against Serbia, before ultimately going on to win in a penalty shootout. Over the next two fixtures though, he was his usual energetic self, troubling the defences of both Israel and Slovakia.

Hopefully, it hasn’t affected him too much because if he can keep this recent form up, he will be well on his way to being back to his best for Scotland. Lennon’s frustration is understandable though, with the player likely coming back both mentally and physically fatigued.
