Ange Postecoglou confirmed he would be holding talks with Odsonne Edouard about his future when the player returns to the club after his summer break.

Eddy was playing internationals this summer so gets a bit of extra time off before heading back to Glasgow.

Fans have felt for some time that it’s a forgone conclusion the player will leave this summer. We at CeltsAreHere still believe this to be the case, but Ange has made it clear he wants to look the striker in the eye and suss out what’s best for Edouard and the club.

Asked if he would be letting Eddy or Ajer go, without having a conversation with the players first, Ange told RecordSport.

“Why should I when I’ve not had that discussion with them?

“I’ll make those decisions myself based on what I see and assess.

“I have a multitude of people giving me advice and opinions. But I’m the one responsible.

“I’ll have those discussions with the players and make sure the club’s interests are protected.

“Do I have to make a quick decision on Edouard? Again, it’ll be a two-way conversation. It’s not just about me and what I desire.

“Whether it’s Edoaurd or whoever, my feeling is that whatever dreams or aspirations they may have, I think they can accomplish them here at Celtic.

“Because whoever does choose to stay, I want to guarantee them that they’ll be part of something special.

“And maybe they should think about it before leaving. Because once you go out the door, it’s very hard to get back in.

“I will do what’s best for the club. If that means players depart, they’ll depart. If it means they stay, they stay.

“But I won’t let anyone use the club as a vehicle for their own purposes.

“When the time comes for it to end, as it will for all of us, hopefully we leave some sort of legacy.

“But I won’t let anyone, player or staff, to serve themselves and put their personal interests ahead.

“So yes, there are discussions I will have with players over the coming weeks.

“But I can assure you that whoever does stay will be committed to this club.”

These Celtic fans and many others have made their mind up on the striker’s status. Eddy was still our top goalscorer last season, but he didn’t look the same Eddy of old.

Many believe we need to move the player on, not because he isn’t talented, but because he doesn’t want to be here anymore. Having disruptive wantaway players in the dressing room can just make things more difficult as we witnessed last season.

Had the managerial situation been sorted out sooner, we could have had all this kind of stuff sorted. As we head into a Champions League qualifier in three weeks, we still have players who look likely to leave with no players in the door yet.

  1. If they don’t commit 100% and sign a minimum 3 year deal with no strings attached, sell them now, we don’t need unhappy players creating conflict in the squad.

  2. Any player that “downs tools” or tries to do “just enough” must go. Between Eduoard, Christie, and Ajer, Ajer is the only one who tried. He is the only one I would want to keep.
