Liam Scales has high praise for his Celtic teammate Cameron Carter-Vickers, suggesting that the American defender possesses the qualities to become a successful manager in the future.

Scales’s comments come after both players have had significant impacts on Celtic’s current campaign in the Scottish Premiership, helping to stabilise the team during a crucial phase of the season.

He came into the team at a time when Celtic had massive injury troubles at the back, and since then he’s kept, Nawrocki, Lagerbielke and Welsh out of the team.

Carter-Vickers, 26, has been a cornerstone of Celtic’s defence. Despite being the “quiet man of Parkhead,” his ability to analyse game situations and his in-depth understanding of football tactics have not gone unnoticed by his teammates.

Scales, who has secured a place as Carter-Vickers’s partner in defence and recently signed a new four-year contract, shared insights into why he believes his teammate could transition into a coaching role in the future.

Liam Scales told RecordSport: “He’s brilliant. We have a lot of discussions about the games. You wouldn’t think it to look at him but he’s one who really analyses the games. He goes through everything and his football intelligence is through the roof. I am learning a lot off him every week, even minor things like positioning or how to deal with different attackers. He’s been brilliant, he’s such a top player.

“Looking at him it’s just like he gets on with it and produced solid performances every week. But he thinks a lot deeper about the game than a lot of people. I think he’s a future manager. I don’t think he believes that himself just yet, but I can see him going into a role like that. He’s got plenty of years left as a player though and hopefully I can play alongside him for a long time.”
