His career in the green and white hoops was not memorable at all as he failed to make any sort of impact having only made three appearances during his time in Glasgow.

He was one of the last signings made under former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers who made it extremely clear that although the Hoops had shelled out a considerable £2 million for the Ukrainian winger he didn’t want him.

The 25-year old experienced two loan spells before finally making the move to Belgian permanent with former hoops defender Boli Bolingoli also joining up with his former teammate this summer.

It was a dramatic weekend for Mechelen who beat Westerlo 5-4 with Shved basically going on strike following the match to try and force a move away from the club.

This has been something that has became more noticeable in the game with players knowing how much their financial value matters to football clubs.

“Marian didn’t want to play because he wants a transfer,” said K.V. Mechelen boss Danny Bujis.

“But the transfer has not yet gone through and when you see that your team is having a hard time with a number of injuries, then I think that as a player you have an obligation to play.

“He didn’t want to do that, so I don’t need him. He can stay at home.

“And what happened? I replaced him with 18-year-old Milan Robberechts, Unlike Marian, he wanted to play and he scored twice to help us win the game. Sometimes, these things are just meant to be.”

Shved will not command a huge fee to move away from the club even though he has two years remaining on his contract but seems intent in returning to his homeland.

If the deal is completed, Shved could take on his former side in the Champions League with Shakhtar Donetsk  taking their place in pot three.

Given the player’s attitude towards his current side, it’s safe to say Celtic had a lucky escape when it comes to Shved. His attitude may have been a big reason around his failed Celtic career.
