Celtic had several new faces on the bench as they cruised to victory over Aberdeen last night, with Shim Mheuka among those introduced to the Parkhead crowd.

The Chelsea teenager was handed his first minutes in green and white when he replaced goalscorer Camilo Duran for the closing stages.

Mheuka had around 15 minutes to make an impression and immediately looked lively leading the line.

The 19-year-old showed plenty of energy, made himself available and even managed to create a couple of opportunities after coming on.

It was an encouraging first outing for the highly-rated forward, who has arrived at Celtic on loan from Chelsea for the season.

Mheuka was one of several late additions to O’Neill’s squad and will now look to build up his fitness and push for more opportunities as the season progresses.

Speaking after the Aberdeen victory, O’Neill was full of praise for his new striker.

“I think he’s a fine player. I’m not surprised that Chelsea have extended his contract big time because he’s a terrific prospect,” the Celtic boss said.

“I think he seems to be a really good lad, level-headed, wants to do well for the football club and wanted to come to us as well too, which is very, very encouraging.” [BBC]

Mheuka now has his first Celtic appearance under his belt, and his energetic cameo suggests there could be plenty more to come from the Chelsea prospect.

He penned a 5-year deal at Stamford Bridge before heading to the Champions on loan and should make it into Celtic’s Europa League squad.
