Torino boss Ignazio Abate has confirmed CeltsAreHere’s exclusive report that Celtic’s pursuit of Gvidas Gineitis had collapsed.

We broke the news yesterday that there was now no chance of an agreement being reached between Celtic and Torino for the Lithuania international.

Gineitis had been on Celtic’s radar for much of the summer, with Martin O’Neill keen to bring the midfielder to Glasgow as part of his midfield rebuild.

The Celtic boss was understood to be unhappy that the club had been unable to get the deal over the line, with negotiations continuing right up until yesterday.

However, Celtic’s hopes of landing the 22-year-old ultimately came to an end.

Now Abate has confirmed that the transfer saga is over, describing the situation as having finally been brought to a close.

“It’s finally over… It’s been a month with borderline situations, even this afternoon,” the Torino manager said, as per the Glasgow Times.

“The club stepped up a gear towards the end. Starting tomorrow [Wednesday], we know who we are and who will be next.”

Gineitis had been valued in the region of £9million and Celtic had been pushing to reach an agreement for the midfielder.

The Hoops ultimately failed to get the deal completed, meaning O’Neill will have to work with the midfield options already at his disposal.
