It’s set to be a quiet deadline day at Celtic.
There have been 10 new arrivals in total, with several joining the Celtic squad in the last few days.
Oliver Sorensen and Shim Mheuka were handed their debuts in Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Aberdeen. Joel van den Berg, Landon Emenalo and Jordan Lotomba were also unveiled on the day of the game.
Sam Johnstone has been brought in to compete with Viljami Sinisalo and appeared on the bench.
The deadline for players to be registered for the league phase of the Europa League was 11 pm on Wednesday. That was the deadline supporters were focused on as another European campaign awaits.
Clubs in Scotland have until 5 pm today (Thursday) to make any final moves until January.
Mark Hendry has provided a further update on any further incomings, and it’s not the news supporters will like to hear.
Writing in his substack, Hendry says that barring any dramatic late twists, Celtic are finished for the summer. Hendry has revealed that the club have been offered several defensive midfield options but have rejected these players, so far at least.
Further left-back cover was considered on top of Landon Emenalo, with an offer to bring Greg Taylor back on loan turned down by PAOK.
O’Neill confirmed that Emenalo will be sidelined for a couple of weeks through injury. That means that Kieran Tierney – expected to return this weekend – will have Jordan Lotomba and Liam Scales as cover in the meantime.
Camilo Duran, Kasper Hogh, Mika Baur, and Haissem Hassan were the first arrivals this window. It was expected that players would continue to be signed for larger fees – Joel van den Berg was the next at £3.4 million after add-ons.
While there is cover is areas that needed to be addressed, there is seemingly no other midfielder imminent, despite the failed attempt for Gineitis.
The club are around £16 million in profit this summer after the departures of Arne Engels, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, and Johnny Kenny to name a few. A healthy profit for the hierarchy, but will their transfer activity reflect well on the pitch?
The Hoops fanbase will be eager to see the rest of the newcomers make their debuts. Mheuka looked sharp and Sorensen tidy; hopefully thar continues.
