Landon Emenalo Injury Update

Celtic have signed cover for the injured Kieran Tierney – only for their new left-back to arrive at Parkhead carrying an injury.

That’s just typical Celtic.

Landon Emenalo completed his loan move from Chelsea yesterday, but the 18-year-old is still recovering from a knock picked up during pre-season.

Celtic had actually held off on completing the deal several weeks ago to give Emenalo time to recover, but the youngster is still not ready to feature.

Martin O’Neill has now confirmed that the highly-rated teenager remains a few weeks away from making his Celtic debut.

The Celtic boss, however, is prepared to be patient with the youngster and believes the wait will be worthwhile.

“We’ve got little Emenalo coming in, who’s signed for us. He’s picked up an injury at this moment, but I’m prepared to wait a couple of weeks for him,” O’Neill said.

“And I think that with a little bit of luck, I think that he’ll be ready in a few weeks’ time.

“He can play left-back and he can play left-sided centre-midfield as well, too, if it comes to the point.

“I’m pleased. I was prepared to take that chance.” [TCW]

Celtic moved for Emenalo as cover for Tierney, who has been sidelined with a knock.

There is some better news on the Scotland international, though, with Maloney suggesting on Tuesday his injury is not serious and that he could be available again this weekend.

That would certainly ease the immediate pressure on the left side of the defence.

But the irony of Celtic signing an injured player to cover for another injured player has not been lost. O’Neill will have to wait for Emenalo to recover before getting a proper look at his new signing.
