CELTIC midfielder Matt O’Riley has been given the opportunity to train with Denmark’s senior squad, despite being left out of the team for the Euro qualifiers against Northern Ireland and Slovenia.

Denmark’s coach, Kasper Hjulmand, extended the invitation to the 22-year-old O’Riley, along with several other promising young players, to join the training camp in Copenhagen. This opportunity saw O’Riley sharing the pitch with notable players like Kasper Schmeichel and Spurs star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

While most of his Celtic teammates post holiday snaps online, Matt is keen to make an impression with the national side.

This development comes on the heels of O’Riley’s contribution to Celtic’s Scottish Cup victory and their record-breaking eighth treble. Born in England, O’Riley is eligible to play for Denmark through his mother, Gitte, and has already earned four caps for the Danish Under-21 side.

O’Riley’s impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, with clubs in England and Germany reportedly expressing interest. European transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Brighton, among others in the Premier League, are considering a move for the Celtic midfielder.

O’Riley, who was signed from MK Dons for a modest £1.5 million, has a contract with Celtic that runs until 2026. His emergence as a key player is one of several successful discoveries made during Ange Postecoglou’s tenure at Celtic.
