CELTIC played extremely well against Real Madrid and was extremely unlucky not to get anything from the game.

Throughout the first half, the team were excellent and had some promising spells in the second half. They just couldn’t get the ball into the back of the net.

After the match, fans stayed behind to acknowledge the team’s performance, chanting ‘we love you Celtic’ and the manager’s name and there walked around the Park before heading back up the tunnel.

It wasn’t the result fans were hoping for, but the performance was what we wanted. To see that against a top-side is promising and has demonstrated the foundations are there to become a Champions League team.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Packie Bonner and Micheal Stewart discussed the positives that the side should be taking away from the match. [Glasgow Live]

Bonner said: “I don’t see anything wrong with it at all. There’s no shame in Celtic getting beat 3-0. If they’d scored in the first half there might have been a slightly different outcome to the game. It is a great lesson for them. I think fans were right to give Celtic a standing ovation even though it was 3-0.”

Stewart said: “Celtic, if they take their opportunities, you never know.

“Everything needs to go their way and it didn’t. There is no shame in Celtic. There is a way to a game of football and they can hold their heads high.

“They have come up against the champions of Europe and did themselves very well. They will be buoyed and confident heading into the other games.”

The manager will be focusing on the performance; he’ll feel for his team who should’ve left the pitch with something more than what they got. The heads won’t drop as they prepare for their next Champions League outing next week.
