MICHAEL STEWART has given his hot take on the Leigh Griffiths incident which saw the striker pick up a yellow from referee Nick Walsh.

In the aftermath of the game, there’s been a lot made of the incident online, mostly from a fan base who are struggling to come to terms with more dropped points.

Leigh Griffiths and Sam Woods were involved in a flashpoint with Woods on the ground appearing to grab Leigh’s foot, the striker loses balance and at that point, his foot comes down with very little force.

The way some have been going on about it, you’d have thought he was stomping a mudhole Stone Cold Steve Austin style.

With a bit of levity and perspective – here was Michael Stewarts take on it.

“I think the referee’s called it right. You can see there that defender’s hand is on Leigh Griffiths’ foot a little bit.” Stewart told BBC Sportscene.

“He loses his balance, I think he still knows what he’s doing. He could’ve moved his foot and planted it elsewhere.

“But I don’t think there’s enough force in it and I don’t think it’s a stamp.

“If it’s not excessive force, then I think it’s been called right.

“The reason it’s a yellow card is because he knew what he was doing and he could’ve planted his foot elsewhere.

“There isn’t a great deal of force in it.”

It has been blown out of proportion but Leigh must remember not to give his opponents or a referee any reason to dismiss him.

The saying goes, are you giving the referee a decision to make? Even if it’s just the tiny chance, you have to make sure you protect yourself.

Celtic ran out 4-1 winners after they finally managed to break down a dogged Hamilton side who did their best to keep Celtic out with ten men.

The bhoys march onto Motherwell on Wednesday night with another away game on the cards. We have momentum but we slipped up at Fir Park last season and we have to be careful don’t give away our current seven-point advantage.

There’s n oword yet if Leigh will be cited for the incident.
