NEIL LENNON has categorically stated he doesn’t believe his striker stamped on Hamilton defender Sam Woods.

However, Hamilton seem determined to keep this issue going and perhaps see the Celtic striker receive retrospective punishment.

The Hamilton boss Brian Rice told Record Sport: “I don’t think there is any debate it was a red card for Leigh Griffiths.

“There is no debate. But my opinion doesn’t matter and the only person whose opinion matters is the referee and he called it the way he has seen it so we move on.

“He may look at it and say he made a mistake or he may look at it and say he got that right but in my humble opinion I don’t think there is any debate.”

Neil Lennon was quick to absolve the frontman, but did have a go at Leigh for pushing Gogic after the incident.

Woods seemed to grab Leigh’s foot to instigate the incident and the striker almost tries to shake it off. There’s no force or malice in the incident.

Neil Lennon told the same RecordSport reporter:

“I didn’t think he stamped on him. He did push the guy in the chest (Gogic), and that’s not what I want. Ill discipline – it’s not what we’re about. We try to keep our discipline as much as we possibly can.

“I had a word with him and he calmed himself down after that.”

Celtic ran out 4-1 winners but you can tell our rivals are feeling the heat with the deluge of PR stunts and noise coming from several different places.

The bhoys have come back from the winter break galvanised after their derby set back and the other team across the city are having a nightmare. The more they drop points, the more we’re going to hear this sort of nonsense.

  1. If the Hamilton Manager was banned then why was he even in the ground? From BBC tv footage it looked like he had contact with his dugout by phone or radio! The same happened when the previous Hibs manager was confined to the stand. If you’re banned then it should be absolute.

  2. Neil your correct to state ‘The referee delt with it’ So the Sfa will ban Griffo for five matches ‘for gross brutality to a fellow professional’. At least he never touched his groin.??
