MICHAEL BEALE has attempted to address the Celtic Park touchline bust-up where he was sent off after a bizarre strop.

The new Ibrox boss was the assistant manager at the time under Steven Gerrard. He lost the plot on the touchline, and after being sent off, he tried to square up to John Kennedy. The Celtic coach just stared at him while Neil Lennon came up behind John to tell Beale to get lost.

The pressure was telling at the time and the Hoops would go on to win another treble that season.

Beale seemed a bit embarrassed by the episode and even hinted he was pals with John during coaching courses in Scotland.

Speaking to the print edition of the Sunday Post [December 4th] Beale: “The situation at Celtic Park when I got sent off was a strange one. For years, I’d been coming up to SFA courses and one of the constants was John Kennedy. I always met him on the courses.

“In that moment, I assumed he said something I wouldn’t have liked him to say – and I told him that. You get carried away and I accused the ref of something you can’t do.

“It was just that game, that moment. Just two minutes before, I was so calm. I’m a little bit more mature now for that. It was part of my learning.”

Beale and Gerrard only managed one trophy at Ibrox in three years, and that was behind closed doors. The pressure he felt during this game will be magnified now he’s the man in charge and the fans are back.

Celtic have won ten out of the last eleven titles. The anomaly was the season that was played out in heartless empty stadia.

Beale must find a way to win in front of an expectant support.
