Former Celtic midfielder and current New York City ace Gary Mackay-Steven has congratulated his former team Dundee Utd on their promotion to the SPFL, while at the same time calling Celtic worthy winners of the top flight if the decision to end the season comes.

GMS is currently playing under former Celtic boss Ronny Deila in New York and is in lockdown with the state being the epicentre for the virus in America.

The little winger has carved out a good career for himself but hasn’t forgotten the places he’s been. He’s delighted to see his former club Dundee Utd head back to the Premier League.

Gary acknowledged the club would have wanted that game defining moment when it was confirmed but it can’t be helped.

Celtic being thirteen points clear at the top of the table has also prompted the former Parkhead midfielder to declare Celtic worthy of their title.

“Firstly, I’m delighted for Dundee United, it maybe wouldn’t have been the way they wanted to win it but it was inevitable it was going to happen.” GMS told SunSport.

“They had had a great campaign and I am personally delighted to see them next year when the season get s under way playing in the division they should be in.

“They’re a massive club with a big fanbase so it is great to see.

“Obviously in the top division we are still waiting to see and it is hard knowing right and wrong about what to do.

“Obviously in an ideal world you would like to play it to a conclusion to know every club’s true position.

“But going back to Celtic they will be worthy champions when the time comes as well.”
