MOI ELYOUNOUSSI has come out and explained why he was on his phone during Celtic’s humiliating defeat to Sparta Prague.

The winger was subbed off in the second half of the Europa embarrassment and while sitting in the stand, BT Sports caught the winger on his phone while the game was still going.

This led to an angry reaction from Sutton and a salty response from Neil Lennon when he was told about it during his post-match interview.

Moi has quickly come out to let fans know what he was doing and he fully accepts he was an idiot for doing so on the night.

“First of all, this is unacceptable from me. I have talked to both the coach and the captain and the case is dead between us.” Moi told RecordSport.

“The phone is just out of pocket. I have warnings from Milan-Lille, the second match in our group, and I just wanted to check the result in that match.

“In any case, it is stupid of me to put myself in that situation. I lie down and take the punishment I’ll now possibly get.”

It was a stupid thing to do but we must not allow this to be any sort of focal point in what went wrong last night.

The Celtic players were hopeless, the bench was no better and it has to be up there as one of our worst Euro defeats.

Sutton going in on Moi while refusing to put blame on his pal Neil Lennon is troubling.

We need an emphatic win on Sunday for anybody to feel better. Europe is effectively gone, it’s all about the league.

  1. My first thought when they said he was on his phone was he was probably checking the other match to see if there had been something to “rescue” this result. Lets be honest we’ve all done it. Moi taking out his phone had no bearing on that result. Something needs to change, what it is I just don’t know. I seriously think the crowd not being there is affecting the team. I know it’s the same for other teams but it’s in our head and the players shaking it off is just not happening. Real Madrid look just the same.
